Risks, Impacts & Opportunities Assessment

Campus Living Villages asked Simply Sustainable to undertake an assessment of the economic, environmental and social issues of most importance for the business, with a view to identifying how responsible business efforts could be more focused and strategic. The backdrop was one of a sector under scrutiny and a business with a unique business model, juggling the competing priorities of multiple stakeholders.

We worked with the business to develop a tailored two-stage process to meet their objectives. A crucial first step was the effective engagement and input of leadership on the issues. We therefore conducted a series of interviews with UK Board members and other key senior functional leaders across the business.

Using the findings from the interviews to identify a long-list of issues, we then assessed the significance of each issue through an in-depth analysis of the risks, impacts and opportunities for the business.

The final report and presentation to the Board brought together our findings from the interviews and analysis, identifying and discussing seven priority issues for the business. It included a series of practical recommendations – spanning strategy, governance, operational integration and communications – identifying how the business could take a more focused and strategic approach to responsible business.

Key outcomes have included:

  •  Further leadership engagement and accountability on responsible business issues
  •  The development of a responsible business strategic framework
  • Alignment of responsible business with commercial objectives
“Thank you for giving your all, engaging with our stakeholders and creating a report and presentation that caught the Leadership Team’s attention and has inspired people to be open to, and ready for, change”
