Nicola Stopps

CEO

Nicola Stopps is CEO of Simply Sustainable. Nicola has 20 years’ experience in sustainability and CSR having worked for some of the largest companies in the world.

Since founding Simply Sustainable in 2010, Nicola has worked with a number of international and national organisations on developing their CSR and sustainability programmes.

Previous roles include; Head of Corporate Responsibility at T-Mobile, Director of Sustainability and Environment at Travelodge Hotels, as well as working for DHL and the BBC. Nicola holds a Geography degree from University of Exeter and received her Master’s in Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing from the University of East Anglia in 1999.

Nicola has a proven capability to deliver high quality projects on time and on budget. She has gained a reputation of someone who ‘gets the job done’ and has experience working in a wide range of sectors. With firm foundations in environmental management and experience in successfully implementing sustainability strategies, Nicola is nationally recognised as a leader in the field of corporate sustainability.

Alasdair Marks

Director

Alasdair Marks is Director of Simply Sustainable. Alasdair joined Simply Sustainable in July 2017 and brings with him more than 10 years of leadership roles and extensive corporate sustainability and responsibility knowledge.

This is thanks, in part, to a Master’s Degree in Corporate Responsibility from London Metropolitan University but also to the wide-ranging nature of his role at BITC where he was previously. Here, he supported a cross-section of leading members to develop and deliver integrated business strategies with responsibility at their core.

This involved working on a broad spectrum of CR approaches with companies from numerous sectors including Telecommunications, FMCG, Utilities, Construction and Engineering, Financial Services, Retail and Facilities Management, with the opportunity to work closely with clients on both an ongoing and project basis in order to drive strategy and maximise impact. Highlights included supporting National Grid to become BITC’s coveted Responsible Business of the Year in 2014/15.

Alasdair also pioneered a series of defining content-led projects targeted at more effectively supporting some 750 BITC members.
These included the creation of a new CR integration and maturity framework, which now form the basis of a number of core member services, and the development of a new method for calculating the business value of CR. He also led the development of a new legislation work stream to support companies faced with the swathe of current and forthcoming responsible business-related legislation in the UK.

Prior to working with BITC, Alasdair spent ten years at Criteria Fieldwork, where as part of the leadership team he supported the company’s growth to become the largest dedicated qualitative fieldwork agency in the UK.

Heather Burrell

Director

Heather joined the Simply Sustainable team in 2019 bringing with her 16 years of experience in sustainability and innovation design, communications, and media planning. A firm believer that high impact global change will come from the unlikeliest of places, she dedicates her talents to helping teams harness the power of storytelling to create positive impact.

Heather began her career in the feature film industry, working as a Story Executive at Sony Pictures. As a side hustle, she spent two years working to develop key areas of sustainability strategy for the studio, igniting a new career direction and purpose that would take her around the globe.

After achieving her M.B.A. with a focus on Sustainable Business, she headed to London and began consulting for global corporates that were looking to make a change. She worked with the likes of Nike, SC Johnson, NASA, before taking the role of Global Communications Director for Interface, a pioneer in sustainable manufacturing.

While there, she was responsible for guiding global internal and external communications at the company, with a strong emphasis on protecting the special culture that had developed over decades of innovation and purpose-driven design.

After years at Interface, a company that has been at the forefront of responsible business for decades, Heather felt it was time to bring that knowledge and expertise to companies who were still in the earlier stages of their journey. She joined award-winning communications agency, Edelman, as a Director for their Purpose team. In that role, she worked with clients to deepen their social and environmental programmes and bring them to life in the media.

She is thrilled to join the exemplary team at Simply Sustainable, coming back to her consulting roots and delivering strategic, data-driven solutions for clients that are looking for meaningful change.

Carlota Esguevillas

Sustainability Consultant

Carlota Esguevillas is a Sustainability Consultant at Simply Sustainable. Carlota joined the team in January 2018 following the completion of her degree.

She achieved First Class Honours in Geography from Oxford University, specialising in human geography. Her dissertation explored narratives of community engagement and means of ‘participation’ in urban redevelopments, highlighting the lack of any meaningful discourse.

In addition to these academic qualifications, Carlota has a range of corporate and charity experience from placements at the CocaCola Company, Nantik Lum, Citi and Social Development Direct.

Rupert Clark-Lowes

Associate Consultant

Rupert has worked in the sustainability industry for over 6 years, managing global clients across several compliance and voluntary services. Among the companies he has worked for is a boutique and carbon sustainability consultancy, and multinational commercial real estate services company Cushman & Wakefield.

Rupert’s areas of expertise encompass a wide range of sustainability services, among which: Sustainability Benchmarking and Reporting (GRESB, CDP, UNPRI, GHG Protocol); Responsible Property Investment; Environment and Social Governance Strategies; Regulatory Compliance and Risk Mitigation (CRC, GHG, ESOS/EED, MEES); Carbon, Energy and Sustainability Data Measurement, Reporting and Assurance; Stakeholder Communications and Engagement; Energy and Sustainability Data Systems; Health and Wellbeing.

Clients Rupert has worked with include: Coca-Cola Enterprises, Aviva, Deutsche Bank, RBS, Harley Davidson, DTZ Investors, New River, TIAA Henderson Real Estate, Invesco, VMware, MS Amlin, Polycom, Japanese Tobacco International, Compass Group.

Michelle Liddle

Executive Assistant to CEO

Michelle Liddle is Executive Assistant to CEO of Simply Sustainable

Michelle joined the Simply Sustainable team in February 2017 and has 6 years experience as an Executive Assistant. Michelle has previously provided executive support to individuals & businesses in journalism, marketing, health & wellbeing and retail. She offers a full range of administrative & HR support services to aid more efficient & focused working for the whole Simply Sustainable team.

Michelle has a 2:1 in Business Studies from London Guildhall University. Prior to joining Simply Sustainable, Michelle gained extensive commercial, business & managerial experience during her career as a Mechandiser. She spent over 13 years working in Head Office for leading high street retailers such as John Lewis, Debenhams, BHS & Habitat.
